Coronavirus: Cases increase in Parramatta, Cumberland

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in western Sydney is on the rise as the number of infected patients in NSW surpasses 1900 cases.

Fourteen more COVID-19 cases have been recorded across the Cumberland and Parramatta communities over three days, pushing the figure of infected people in the region past 60.

NSW Health data shows there are 33 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Cumberland Local Government Area and 30 across Parramatta City as of 8pm on Saturday.

Since last Wednesday, five more people tested positive to COVID-19 in the Parramatta region and nine more in Cumberland.

The Western Sydney Local Health District, which takes in Westmead, Auburn, Blacktown and Mt Druitt hospitals, has the fifth highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases – 136 — in NSW.

South Eastern Sydney tops the list with 412 cases, followed by northern Sydney (333), Hunter-New England (187) and southwestern Sydney (141).

A total of 26 patients are being treated in intensive care units.

Across NSW there are 1918 cases and 4164 people have been diagnosed in Australia. A total of 18 have died across the nation.

There are 189 NSW cases from the Ruby Princess, 66 cases from the Ovation of the Seas, which docked on March 18 and 26 cases from the Voyager of the Seas which docked on the same day.

There are two new cases in NSW, from the Celebrity Solstice, making it four total cases in NSW.

As the crisis deepens, councils have followed updated government advice on social distancing and shut playgrounds and parks.

From midnight, people gathering with more than one person in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania could incur fines or jail time.
