Carlingford: BaptistCare plans for multi-storey social housing at Pennant Hills Rd

Plans for a $68 million affordable housing development with 162 apartments is earmarked for Carlingford where a BaptistCare aged care home once stood.
BaptistCare’s plans for two lots of social and affordable housing units at 264-268 Pennant Hills Rd have been lodged with the Sydney Central City Planning Panel, which is assessing the development application.
The 2.75 hectare site had to be rezoned from low-residential to high density as part of the proposal which would see 10 buildings ranging from two to four storeys.
A total of 99 will be for eligible seniors and 63 for families.
The proposal also includes basement marking and traffic signals at the corner of Baker St and Pennant Hills Rd — one of Sydney’s busiest arterial roads.
The developers will fund the $748,000 signals as part of development contributions.
Parramatta councillor Pierre Esber welcomed the development that would be completed “tastefully and respectfully’’.
“It’s providing housing for the local community. It ticks all the boxes,’’ he said.
He said the Parramatta Light Rail’s first stage, which ends at Carlingford, provided infrastructure but he was concerned about pedestrian safety if the stations were built in the middle of a busy road.
The plans are being assessed and the State Government will determine the application.
