A man who allegedly stabbed a stranger at the food court of Stockland Merrylands will get a small taste of freedom under house arrest after being granted bail.

Yousef Sabbouh, 23, allegedly knifed a 35-year-old man at the eating area of the busy shopping centre on October 27 shortly after 2.30pm.

He was charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after presenting himself to a police station.

Khaled Alameddine, 20, of Guildford, was charged with being an accessory after the alleged incident when the man was found with stab wounds to his torso.

He was also charged with concealing a serious indictable offence (with max imprisonment not more than 20 years) of another person.

Sabbouh appeared via video link at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday when Magistrate Peter Feather granted strict bail with several conditions.

Sabbouh must live with his mother, who posted $1000 surety, at Casula and only leave the house with her supervision or with his sister.

He must report to Liverpool police station daily, surrender his passport to police within 24 hours of his release, not go within 1km of any international point of departure, not to enter or approach Merrylands and not to associate with Alameddine.

The court heard Sabbouh, who has been in custody since his arrest in January, had been exposed to violence in jail.

The prosecutor told the court the defendant was captured in photographs but Mr Feather said part of his face could not be seen.

His lawyer said there were holes in the prosecution case, which the magistrate described as neutral.

The court heard Sabbouh had a limited criminal history.

He is next due to appear at court on May 2.
