A dad of four alleged to have threatened a woman with a loaded gun will stay behind bars on remand with police warning the allegations could “promise future offending of rape and murder”.
Alaa Ayoubi, 29, of Lidcombe faced Parramatta Local Court via video link on Wednesday after he was charged with endangering life through possessing a loaded firearm, common assault, assault causing bodily harm, breaching court orders and two counts of stalking and intimidation. He has not entered any pleas.
Court documents state on Tuesday evening, the part-time marketing consultant was in possession of a .22 calibre revolver pistol when he assaulted and threatened a woman at a property in Villawood.
The police prosecutor described his charges as being “the worst types of domestic violence offending” of the “highest seriousness possible” which could lead to “future offending of rape and murder”.
A lawyer for Ayoubi suggested her client be granted bail so he can continue studying for his TAFE diploma in information technology and look after his children.
In response, the prosecutor emphasised the safety of the alleged victim should be paramount and said “employment and family concerns are not show cause for bail”.
The court heard Ayoubi did not have a “lengthy” record and was last before the courts in 2018, and had never spent time in custody before.
Magistrate Robert Rabbidge described the circumstances of the alleged offending as “seriously troubling” and having “the potential to end very badly”.
“Anybody proved, either by trial or by plea to have had possession of a loaded firearm will serve significant term of imprisonment.” he said.
Alaa Ayoubi was denied bail the matters will return to Downing Centre Local Court on January 24.
