A western Sydney dad and serial domestic abuser who attacked a woman within a month of being sentenced for a previous assault has been jailed.

George Francis Mitchell, 57, appeared to Blacktown Local Court via video link pleading guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of common assault, two counts of breaching court orders and two counts of stalking and intimidation.

The court heard the former navy electrician from Marayong had repeatedly subjected a woman to verbal and physical abuse through terrifying outbursts leaving her fearing for her life.

On one occasion when the woman was a passenger in Mitchell’s car he began driving dangerously and intentionally drifting the car, threatening her:

“I’ll crash the car if you take your seat belt off,” he said.

On another occasion in August 2021, Mitchell flew into a violent rage when the woman confronted him about a secret Instagram account he had been using.

The matter was dealt with at Blacktown Local Court.

Mitchell started by kicking the couch she was sitting on, then climbed on top of the woman and began screaming in her face at the top of his lungs.

He then grabbed the woman, who suffers from a long term neck injury, by her hair and dragged her before smashing up a table, almost hitting her pet dog.

A month before the incident, for which Mitchell was charged with assault, he had been sentenced to a community correction order for a separate attack on the woman.

His community correction order was revoked and he was remanded in custody, where he has stayed since May 2022.

Magistrate Brian Van Zuylen was unimpressed when he heard Mitchell had attacked the woman when he had already been sentenced for a separate assault on her.

Mr Van Zuylen said there was no appropriate option other than a jail term as Mitchell was clearly unable to abide by court orders.

Since entering custody for the first time the court heard Mitchell regrets his behaviour and has discovered Christianity by spending large amounts of time with the prison priest.

Mitchell was convicted and sentenced to a jail term of two years and three months with a non-parole period of 18 months.
