More than 7000 workers — from gym junkies to government bureaucrats — are expected to file through the glossy new lobby at Parramatta’s newest building, 4 Parramatta Square, from December 13 to June.

The lofty 40-storey tower will see 550 Planning Department staff move in from Friday while 4900 employees from 12 offices from that department will eventually relocate and centralise to the Darcy St office by June.

The Customer Service Department will see 2500 staff set up their digs there between January and May while GT Insurance and Universal Fitness will also call it home.

The tower, to house shops and a business and events centre, will see 65,000sq m of office space. Its influx of workers translates to the largest government agency leasing commitment in western Sydney.

When workers leave 4 Parramatta Square for the day, they will eventually reach the train station and Westfield via a soon-to-open underground concourse.

On November 30, Darcy St reopened to pedestrians and vehicles after two years of constructing the tower.

The street runs one way from Smith St to Church St.

The 4 Parramatta Square building is part of the three-hectare Parramatta Square redevelopment, which will see 25,000 workers occupy four towers in the CBD by 2023.

Parramatta Lord Mayor Bob Dwyer said the 6000sq m public domain would play an important role in improving access to the rest of the CBD and linking it to Parramatta River, Riverside Theatres, Bankwest Stadium and the future Powerhouse Precinct.

Walker Corporation, which owns 4 Parramatta Square, recently received the Outstanding Commercial Property category award at the Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s Boomtown Property and Infrastructure Awards.

Chief operating officer David Gallant said 4 Parramatta Square’s had a cutting edge work environment.

“Parramatta Square isn’t just a jobs boom for western Sydney; it is going to be anchored by some exciting retail and hospitality options for Parramatta’s workers, residents and visitors to enjoy,’’ he said.

Tier 1 national contractor Built and its joint venture partner Obayashi Corporation (BOJV) are constructing Parramatta Square’s four towers, which architects Johnson Pilton Walker designed.
