Glimpse into future of Parramatta’s skyline

A sprawling aquatic centre, Arthur Phillip High School and commercial towers — here’s a sneak peek of what Parramatta could look like once major projects that are transforming the city are completed.

Parramatta Council has given a glimpse into the city’s future with the 3D images and flythrough after several

award-winning architectural projects are completed.

These include Bankwest Stadium, Parramatta Square, Parramatta Aquatic and Leisure Centre, the Civic Link and Arthur Phillip High School – the state’s first high-rise public high school.

buildings are at 89 George St, 2-10 Phillip St, 130 George St, 32 Smith St, 180 George St, 10 Valentine Ave, 12A Parkes St, 88 Church St, 11-13 Aird St and 2-6 Hassall St.

They are some of the 30 projects that have won Design Excellence competitions over the past four years and are worth $5.5 billion.

The council has undertaken more Design Excellence competitions than any other NSW council.

Parramatta Lord Mayor Bob Dwyer said the animations showed architecture that would help cement Parramatta as a world-class city.

“At the core of any great city is quality design and planning,’’ he said.

“This leads to the construction of first-rate commercial and residential buildings, and infrastructure that meets the needs of current and future populations.

“It’s exciting to see the future coming to life right before our eyes.”

Greater Sydney Commission’s central city district commissioner Peter Poulet said great design was essential to creating a vibrant urban environment.

“It’s not just about the buildings,’’ he said.

“It’s about the squares, the green spaces, and the streets, that makes a place great to live, work and play – and Parramatta is delivering on that.’’
