ROUND TWO WRAP

DESPITE the frustrations, there were a couple of blazing tons while two leggies spun up a storm of their own.

Sutherland’s Jarryd Biviano took to Fairfield-Liverpool’s attack on the first day at Glenn McGrath Oval, the left-hander blasting 153 in the home side's imposing 9/369 off 96 overs. Coming in at the fall of the second wicket, Biviano added to the two centuries he scored last season finishing with 80 runs in boundaries off just 169 deliveries.

Jaydyn Simmons’ 58 set up Fairfield-Liverpool’s chase on day two before the heavens opened up with the score on 4/167. Justin Green was the pick of the locals taking 3/31.

It was a similar scene at Drummoyne Oval where Justin Avendano’s 152 propelled UTS North Sydney to a day one total of 7/322. Coming off a fruitful 2021-22 season that returned three centuries, the aggressive right-hander showed no signs of slowing down.

With little chance of reaching the Bears total, Sydney ground out 2/77 from 36 overs before the storm rolled in.

Day one between Sydney University and UNSW started with a tribute to Peter Tate, the veteran umpire just the 11th in 109 years to officiate in 200 first grade matches.

On the field, UNSW had no answer to Devlin Malone, the leggie ripping through the Bees middle order on the way to an impressive 6/42. In the end, a stubborn 58 off 134 balls by Krishna Padmanabhan at No. 8 saved his side from certain defeat.

Chasing 163 on the final day, Nick Larkins’ brisk 45 saw Sydney Uni race to 1/82 before their charge was terminated after 23 overs.

At Blacktown, Smit Raval wove his own magic, the right-arm leg spinner taking 7/66 in Hawkesbury’s 189 all out. Wicketkeeper/batsman Bilal Qureshi top scored for the visitors with 54 and followed it up with three catches off paceman Zak Honeybrook (4/40), to have the home side teetering at 7/119 when rain stopped play.

Eastern Suburbs rounded out day one on 6/203, with the second day abandoned. Nicholas Taylor top scored with 63 not out while Elijah Eales took the honours with the ball finishing with 3/25.

Only one innings was completed at Asquith with Axel Cahlin’s 48 the top score in Gordon’s 173. Northern District’s Ross Pawson backed up his opening round six wicket haul to take 4/45 alongside fellow paceman Toby Gray who finished with 4/43.

There were only 16.4 overs across both days at Howell Oval with Penrith stranded on 2/56 in the match with Parramatta.

SECOND GRADE

In the only fixture to come away with a result, St George came away with a 77 run defeat of Bankstown.

Andrew Walsh (4-30) and Joshua Moors (4-18) did the damage to restrict Bankstown to 95, with an unbeaten 65 to Keiran Beadon helping St George cruise to victory.

Brad Barnes, Ashley Doolan and Shehan Sinnetamby all scored half centuries for Mosman against Eastern Suburbs, which saw Samuel Greenland net five wickets for the Dolphins.

Will Lawrance starred with 92* for Easts.

Penrith’s Pete Gregersen had figures of 7-64 against Parramatta as opener Andrew Calvert blasted 61 in a no-result.

Connor Mizzi’s century for Sydney was the highlight in a rain delayed match against UTS North Sydney.

Hayden Storey’s 79 runs for Sydney Uni was matched by UNSW bowler Gavin Hoey taking six wickets in the battle of the students.

THIRD GRADE

Rain ruined any hopes of a result across the Mitchell Cup.

Mosman was one of the few teams to get in a full innings, and Joel McGregor scoring an unbeaten 93 helped them to declare at 7-253.

At Harold Fraser Reserve it was a top effort from Jarrod Brown to score 112 for St George

Samuel Fitzgibbon notched a five-wicket haul for Sutherland in a no-result against Fairfield-Liverpool in a match that saw Sukhwant Sabharwal post 58 runs.

FOURTH GRADE

Randwick-Petersham was the only team to come away with a win in fourth grade, downing Campbelltown Camden by six wickets.

Thomas Gibson’s extraordinary 5-15 helped keep the visitors to 123 runs, with an unbeaten 60 to Jordan Segal helping his side chase down the runs within 20 overs.

Callan Kean scored 68 runs for Penrith and Ryan Johns picked up five wickets for Parramatta as the two sides were unable to come away with a result.

FIFTH GRADE

Fairfield-Liverpool’s six-wicket win over Sutherland was the only result of the round.

Sutherland was kept to just 143 runs, with Zeel Nizama (61*) and Jayesh Kalra (55) getting the job done for the visitors.

Abdullah Shaikh’s 76* was a highlight for Northern District as just 23 overs were played against Gordon.
