The future stars of women’s cricket: 33 players to watch in the Brewer Shield

The next generation of women’s cricket stars are coming through the ranks right here in New South Wales. We look at the 33 players to watch in the Brewer Shield U18s girls 2022/23 season.

AS CRICKET season prepares to get into the full swing of action, the next generation of female talent is set to shine.

The Brewer Shield commences this weekend for the U18s girls, with the future crop of state and national stars competing right here in Sydney and surrounding regions.

To celebrate the start of the season, NewsLocal looks at the 33 players to watch in the 2022/23 Brewer Shield.

BANKSTOWN

MADISON RUTHERFORD

Bowler

Madi is taking on a leadership role in the U18 Brewer Shield this season after making her 2nd debut in the SF last season where she starred with 4/1 off 3.4 including a wicket on her first 2 balls in this great. Madi finished with 10 wickets at 10.30 last season in Brewer and will be looking to do the same leading a very young group of girls with both the bat and ball this season.

AVA BLACKBURN

Opening bowler

Ava is a tall fast bowler who will be looking to do the damage early in matches with pace and swing. Ava has really developed into being a leader and will be the key bowler for Sporties Brewers this season.

CAMRYN HARLAND

All-rounder

Camryn is a talented 14-year-old that will look to showcase her skills with both bat and ball this season after finishing with her first season of Brewer last season. Camryn has showed that she is able to bat all day with her determination to hang in there when her side was in terrible last season and with the bowl her great consistency will be the key for Sporties this season after picking up 5 wickets in 21/22.

EMILIA DANNE

All-rounder

Emilia is a hard hitting top order batter who is a key voice for the team. Emilia leads by example in the field and brings a lot of energy to the group. She has been appointed vice-captain and will look to dominate with the bat this season.

ELIZABETH CAMBRIDGE

Top order bat, off-spinner

Lizzie has come through the Gordon Juniors and we are excited to see develop as an individual and as a player by promoting her to captain the team. She is a hard hitting batter, who can bat top the order or lower down in the finishing role. Plus, she has a nous of breaking partnerships with her handy off-spinners.

MADDIE CASPERS

All-rounder, middle order bat, medium pace bowler, wicketkeeper

Maddie is coming back from injury (out for most of last season). She is part of the leadership group of the team. Maddie is a genuine athlete with all around capabilities. She delivers handy medium pacers, handy with the bat lower down and a decent keeper to boot. Her presence in the team provides the team with confidence in adapting to different situations.

NANDHA SAJISH

Middle order bat, outswing bowler

Nandha is a quiet achiever in the team, she is part of the leadership group and we are excited to see her game develop from strength to strength. Nadha is a genuine outswing bowler who consistently troubles top order batters and makes useful batting contributions.

LUCY PEARCE

Middle order bat, right-arm off-spin

Lucy is the inaugural captain. She has captained Newcastle representative teams in previous years and really has a very good understanding of the game for someone so young. Current member of the NSW Country pathways squad.

EMILY HUMPHREYS

Top order bat, right-arm off-spin

Emily is one of the leaders and senior member of this side. She has just partaken in the NSW U19s state championships and continues to shine as a cricketer and has a very bright future.

EDEN JAMES

Right-arm fast bowler

Eden is also a part of the leadership group. She has previously captained in the Premier League Brewers competition and brings plenty of experience. She is a girl everyone loves to play with, highly motivated and so encouraging of all the girls.

CAIOMHE BRAY

Top order bat, right-arm fast bowler

Caiomhe is an absolute star of the future and has only just turned 13. Already earmarked by NSW cricket pathways as having a massive future. She was just included in NSW U19s state championships. One to watch big time.

NICOLA HUDSON

Opening bat, right-arm medium/fast bowler

Nicola loves the game and enjoys playing with her mates and playing as a team. Her dream is one day to become a professional cricket player and she is certainly on the right track.

CAITLIN DU PREEZ

Opening bat, middle order swing bowler

Anticipating Caitlin`s game to rise to a new level now that she has been appointed as the

captain of the team. Caitlin is an experienced and most reliable player at this level and provides a steady and grounded maturity with the bat and a real wicket taking option with the ball with her being able to swing the ball both ways. A real determined and focused leader.

SOPHIE LOWRY

Top order bat, right-arm medium-fast

Sophie embodies the true meaning of an all-rounder. Combines her natural talent with a determined hard work ethos. A brazen batter with an emphasis on placement and the guile of timing the ball. Extremely accurate with the ball in hand focusing on the economical spell at all times. An outstanding fielder with a rocket of an arm - take her on in the field at your own peril.

ARABELLA HANDLEY

Middle order bat, right-arm medium-fast

Arabella offers the potential to be one of the quickest bowlers in the competition. While only 14 years of age, her cricket nous and competitiveness is astonishing. Provides true athleticism around the field like a gazelle in full flight which is a joy to watch. Offers plenty with the bat really enjoys taking on the bowler when given the chance.

HANNAH MOSS

Top order bat, right-arm fast-medium

Hannah is another young gun stepping up from the U15’s blessed with great hand eye

Co-ordination and offering all the attributes of an all rounder. Will be a run machine up the top of the order always looking to score runs at every opportunity. Relishes occupying the crease and building an innings and wearing the bowler down. A natural bowling action that is as smooth as silk intent on bowling wicket to wicket. A safe pair of hands and a determined attacking fielder Hannah will be an attribute to the team.

JORJA MIZZI

Left-arm orthodox spin

Returns to the Parramatta Brewers team for the 2022/2023 season, with her left-arm orthodox spin, bringing her six wickets in eight matches last season. This experience combined with a great off-season training program with CNSW and club means she will attract the interest of scorers.

LAKSHMI KILA RAJADURAI

Top order bat/right-arm off-spin

Is making her debut into the Brewers fray this season, with a combined experience of three years of association, representative and NSW Academies. Lakshmi’s leadership as a top order bat will be part of the teams core and the Parramatta club is confident that this talented cricketer will weather all occasions, along with contributing with her right arm off spin. Lakshmi will feature in the score book each week.

Opening bat, right-arm fast

Nikki is an exciting opening batsman who can play all the shots in the game. She is very effective with her swing bowling with the new ball.

AMISHA MOHANARAJ

Top order bat, right-arm leg-spin

Amisha is a hardworking team player who bowls attacking leg spinners and provides consistent contributions at the top order by playing an anchor role in the batting line up.

Right-arm all-rounder

An intelligent cricketer with a good understanding of game play. Always puts her team and teammates ahead of herself. Is the great niece of Alan Fairfax.

TALEHA URSZULAK

Right-arm inswing bowler

Travels from Shellharbour each week to play. Is a very economical yet attacking bowler who will hit the stumps if her opponents miss. One of the senior players in the team and will proved added leadership to the group.

LUCIA MARTIN

Top order bat, right-arm pace bowler

Is a very exciting prospect of the future and a definite young gun. Started as a right-arm, opening pace bowler last season but has quickly developed to become a handy top order batter as well. Selected in the NSW Under 15 squad after just one season in Brewer Shield.

SOPHIE CLARK

Fast bowler

In her debut season with the Slayers. She has developed so much during the pre-season that the club cannot wait to see what she will achieve during the season. One to watch.

Opening bat

Sydney’s leading run scorer last year is a right hand opening batter and close in fielder. Emily is part of the Academy system and will provide a strong platform at the start of each innings.

Opening bat, right-arm medium pace

Playing with confidence behind her and more experience. The club will be looking for Holly to be a steady hand at the top of the order.

Opening bowler

Skye is an accomplished opening bowler who has been in the Academy system for a number of years. One they expect that with a move up the batting order, she will be among the top run scorers.

Our captain. A first or second change fast bowler who builds pressure and is difficult to get away. She takes wickets when needed.

One of the most talented cricketers to come through the program. Great technique and a mature cricketer who is in NSW’s pathways program.

Another extremely talented cricketer who is part of NSW’s pathways program. An explosive cricketer capable of taking a game away from an opponent in the blink of an eye.

Highly talented sportswoman who has represented NSW in volleyball and indoor cricket as well as having been in NSW’s cricket pathways program. Liz is a skilled all-rounder and a leader at the club.

Experienced second grade all-rounder and NSW pathways product who is staying at the Bears to help our younger cricketers achieve their potential. A beloved member of the club.

The daughter of men’s NSW Premier Cricket first grade games record holder, Rob Aitken, Emily has been learning some of Rob’s tricks with the ball. A clearly talented and dedicated cricketer, this shapes as a breakout season for Emily.
