Taimoor Nadeem: Putney man remanded in custody, threatens to call media on Magistrate

After being sent back into custody for an alleged fourth driving charge, airport security worker Taimoor Nadeem made the decision he wasn’t going to leave the court quietly.

A Sydney Airport security guard has been kept behind bars on remand after a court heard he allegedly led police on a pursuit while disqualified from driving.

Taimoor Nadeem, 26, yelled from the dock of Burwood Local Court on Thursday that he would “call Channel 9” on Magistrate Lisa Stapleton after he was denied bail.

Nadeem had spent the night in custody after allegedly being caught riding a motorbike in West Ryde before leading police on a chase.

The court was told Nadeem had been before the courts for driving offences three times for driving more than 40km/h over the speed limit and mid-range drink driving.

He had escaped a conviction twice in that time, the court heard.

“This is an injustice,” he yelled toward Magistrate Stapleton as he was led back to the cells.

“I will be calling Channel 9.”

His outburst could still be heard from the courtroom while Nadeem was deep into the custody area below the court.

He has been charged with driving while unlicensed possessing cannabis and failing to stop at a stop sign in West Ryde on Wednesday, but the charges will be amended, police said.

The Putney man, who was born in Pakistan and arrived in Australia in 2012, is currently banned from driving until 2025 because he failed to have an interlock device installed on his car in May when his drink driving ban expired.

Installing the device would have meant he would be free to drive.

His lawyer had argued keeping Nadeem in custody would prevent him from providing for his wife and young family.

The court was told Nadeem had qualifications in business and was convicted for drink driving late last year in Liverpool Local Court.

“He has demonstrated he has no respect for the rules of the road,” Magistrate Stapleton said in denying him bail.

Nadeem will appear in the same court on Friday where his charges are expected to be corrected, the court was told.
