A 28-year-old man who failed to turn up to court on serious drugs charges is facing jail for 15 years if he returns for his sentencing.

Magistrate Greg Grogin issued a warrant for Homebush man Kun Fong Wei’s arrest after he failed to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday – where he found the crime proven in his absence.

He was charged with dealing meth after police smashed a major inner west ice syndicate in August.

Wei was arrested in the major police crackdown which saw 620g of meth seized – worth about $465,000 on the street – in numerous raids in Croydon, Homebush and Lugarno.

He was charged with supplying an indictable quantity of drugs when a suspected meth lab in Croydon was raided and rumbled the alleged illegal operation.

The details of his case read to the court reveal Wei admitted to police during the search of his home he was stashing drugs in his property.

The drugs were allegedly found in a variety of places during the raids, including inside a soft drink can.

Detectives found two bags of meth weighing 25.3g in his built-in wardrobe after the “full and frank” admissions, the court heard.

As well as the meth, it is alleged the detectives from the Surry Hills Police Area Command seized $78,000 in cash, 170g of cannabis, 290g of unidentified powder, anabolic steroids and prescription drugs.

Police set up a taskforce in May to look into the supply of ice around Sydney when their investigation zeroed in on the Croydon home of a female co-accused.

Wei was arrested at his Homebush home when it was raided on August 19, along with a nearby business in the same suburb and a Lugarno property.

Pictures of some of the ice allegedly seized by police show the drug stuffed in a 7-Up can and in a large plastic bag.

Wei is facing a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail if convicted on the charge but did not enter the courthouse when his case was mentioned about 1pm.

Magistrate Greg Grogin adjourned his case to be heard back in the same court later this year for sentencing, though it will eventually have to be heard in the District Court.
