Cherrybrook
Man dies after home invasion
An elderly man has died in hospital after he and his wife were assaulted during a home invasion at Cherrybrook.
Emergency services were called to Tallowwood Ave just before 12.30am on Wednesday 29 April 2020, after reports two men had allegedly forced entry to the home.
The men, who had their faces concealed, threatened the couple before allegedly assaulting them.
Officers from Ryde Police Area Command attended and located the occupants, an 86-year-old man and 84-year-old woman, with serious head injuries.
Both were taken to Westmead Hospital where the man later died due to his injuries.
After the attack on Wednesday, Acting Superintendent Anthony Boyd said it was a targeted crime.
“To attack a defenceless elderly couple within their home is a cowardly gutless attack,” Acting Sup. Boyd said.
“We don’t believe it’s a random attack but the reasons for the attack are still being investigated.”
An investigation into the incident is continuing, with local police being assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Anyone with information about the incident or the attackers is urged to contact police 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
