Man to face court after allegedly not paying for groceries

A 43-year-old man from Dundas Valley entered a supermarket about 3pm on April 20 where he filled his trolley with groceries.

Police will allege the man walked past the check out and stood near customers leaving the store.

The man waited for about 10 minutes then allegedly walked out of the store without paying.

He was stopped outside by the store’s loss prevention officers and police were contacted.

The man was issued with a court attendance notice for larceny and he is due to appear in Burwood Local Court at a later date.

Learner driver issued COVID-19 warning and arrested for drink driving

A learner driver who allegedly returned a positive breath test reading and was not accompanied by a driver will face court.

Police were travelling south along Woolwich Road when they saw a motor vehicle stopped outside a house. Police allegedly saw a woman standing on the driver’s side of the vehicle and a short time later was seen running back into her home. Police then saw the vehicle drive off before stopping in a cul-de sac.

Police approached the vehicle and spoke to the driver while noticing there were two other 16-year-old female passengers in the back seat of the vehicle.

The 16-year-old driver, from Hunters Hill, could not produce his physical driver’s licence.

Police checks found he had a learners NSW driver’s licence.

The driver was submitted to a breath test which allegedly returned a positive reading before he was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station to undergo a breath analysis. He allegedly returned a reading of 0.039.

The teen was immediately suspended from driving and his licence was suspended.

He was issued with a court attendance notice for driving with special range drink driving, being a learner not accompanied by a driver and failing to display his L plates.

The teen and his fellow passengers were given a warning in relation to breaching COVID-19 restrictions.

He is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on 22 June 2020.

Man charged with assaulting security guard in supermarket

A man has been charged after an alleged heated argument with another man.

The 53-year-old man went to a supermarket about 6.30pm on April 16 where a security guard said he was having a heated argument with another man outside the store.

It is alleged the security guard asked the two men to calm down and leave the area.

The 53-year-old man then entered the supermarket while the other man walked away.

Once inside the supermarket he allegedly started to yell, swear and abuse the staff at the front desk. Police allege the man allegedly swung at the security guard and hit him in the face before another employee stepped in and told the man to leave. The man left the store and police were contacted.

About 8.45pm the same evening, police arrested him and he was charged with assault and behaving in an offensive manner in/near a public place.

He is now due to appear in Burwood Local Court on July 6.


Marsfield

Man charged with drug possession and police assault charges

Police were patrolling Kent Road when they stopped a taxi with a man sitting in the back passenger's seat. The man, a 38-year-old from St Ives was known to police for having an outstanding revocation of parole warrant.

The man allegedly attempted to run.

Police then took hold of the man and he allegedly kicked three of the police officers while they were attempting to arrest him.

It is alleged the man continued to resist police attempts to arrest him and a struggled ensued before he was finally handcuffed.

The man was searched, and police allege he was in possession of a small amount of clear liquid which is believed to be the drug GHB.

He was taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with possessing a prohibited drug, assaulting police and resisting arrest.

The man was bail refused and will appear in Hornsby Local Court on April 29.
