Eastwood St Andrews AFC coach Stephen Bissett has been announced as the winner of the 2016 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award.
The annual award recognises fathers in local communities from all over Australia who have been making a positive impact through their involvement in local sport.
“Stephen is a great role model for our kids,” said club member Paul Gomez, who nominated Mr Bissett for the award.
“He works a full time job and makes himself available to coach soccer, cricket and help at our school.
“He has a great sense of community and always has a smile on his face encouraging the kids to do their best and loves training them to improve.”
The father of three has been a coach with Eastwood St Andrews since 2009 and just this year earned the role of the club’s vice-president of Women’s Football.
Former English Premier League player Michael Bridges was on hand to present Mr Bissett with his prize- a $5000 Rebel voucher.
Mr Bissett will donate the voucher to Eastwood St Andrews.
“There are a lot of dads out there just like me,” he said.
“It’s all about seeing our sons and daughters enjoying their sport ... and helping in any way you can.
“I simply like seeing the kids come up to me after school or before training and say with a smile on their face,‘how are you coach?’”
