The success of Ryde Secondary College’s Volleyball Academy was on full display last week with the U16 Boys side taking out the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup in Melbourne.
A come-from-behind win in the U/16 Division 1 grand final against fierce rivals Sydney Boys High School was the cherry on top of a fantastic year for the sport at Ryde, with the school’s Volleyball Academy going from strength to strength.
PE Teacher and Head Coach Alex McLellan praised the team’s effort in bringing home the gold. “This is an outstanding achievement for this team and its coach, Daniel Han, who have been training hard all year,” he said.
Mr McLellan also paid credit to the school’s Academy in increasing the skills and passion of students interested in volleyball.
“This year, we fielded five teams and we expect to take more again to the 2017 championships, given the rising interest in volleyball among our students,” he said.
“This team of young men is keen to make it gold three years in a row.”
