Three local students have had their sporting achievements honoured at the 16th annual Sydney Archdiocesan Primary Sports Awards.
St Kevin’s Catholic Primary students Jordan Kawtal and Julian Ajaka and Alexa Yu from Holy Spirit Catholic Primary were among the 41 to receive medals at a special ceremony at St Charles’ Catholic Primary School in Ryde.
The awards recognise athletes from a pool of 116 Catholic primary schools around Sydney.
Julian and Jordan both made the NSWPSSA athletics team, while Alexa placed first in springboard and sixth in synchronised events at the 2016 School Sports Australia Diving Competition.
Each of the students were awarded their medals by wheelchair rugby player and Rio Paralympic gold medallist Andrew Edmondson.
Sydney Archdiocesan Primary Sports Coordinator Troy Moran congratulated the students on their incredible achievements.
“The students awarded have excelled in 12 of the 16 available representative pathways and some have reached the pinnacle of making a state team twice,” he said.
“The number of students we have presented with awards today shows that opportunities are there for talented children to succeed.”
Holy Spirit teacher Caroline Lonergan also received a service award for her active involvement in athletics and other school and state primary sporting events.
