Northern District’s star batsman Andrew Harriott says it’s business as usual for him in season 2017/18, despite taking over as the club’s first grade captain.
In his sixth year with the Rangers, the 25 year-old will replace former captain Chris Green for the upcoming Belvidere Cup season, which commences on Saturday at Mark Taylor Oval in Waitara.
“It’s always a great honour to be elected as captain,” the Melbourne Renegades and ACT Comets representative said.
“I filled in a couple of times for Chris last year ... so it was great to get that experience under my belt.”
Harriott added that focusing on his own game will help him manage the increased workload that comes with the captaincy.
“There’s definitely a lot more pressure on you as captain but I’m just going to take it all in my stride.
“If you focus on yourself and your play, it will help the team in the long run.”
The wicketkeeper is coming off a sensational 2016/17 season which saw him rack up four centuries and an average of 70.3.
He was also named men’s player of the year, first grade player of the year and first grade player’s player at Northern District’s 2016/17 presentation evening.
“It was my best season yet, I’d like to try and replicate it again this year,” Harriott said.
“Hopefully I can be even better.”
Test star Nathan Lyon will be among Northern District’s playing squad when the 2017/18 season commences on Saturday against Eastern Suburbs at Mark Taylor Oval in Waitara.
