Ryde Little Athletics has celebrated 200 years of athletic history with its annual Ryde City Games.
Neighbouring club Northern Suburbs was invited to take part in this year’s event, also attended by special guests Jim Hull and Ross Foster.
Mr Hull is chairman of the Ryde Sports Foundation and an avid supporter of the club while Mr Foster is a longtime veteran and director of Ryde Little Athletics.
Both men have been honoured with new races in their names - the Ross Foster 440 Gift, won by 13 year old Adam Bruntsch, and the Inaugural Jim Hull Handicapped Ryde City Gift, won by 13 year old Savi Moala.
Combined, there is nearly 200 years of Ryde Athletics history between the four of them.
The races were just some of many new initiatives of club president David Sunderland, with other accomplishments including extensive refurbishments for Dunbar Park and the addition of a disability-friendly program.
“Many positive changes and great new initiatives have occurred under David, with his proactive, positive, fun, welcoming and inclusive attitude,” said publicity officer for Ryde Athletics Junior Division, Sandra Prizmic.
“This 2016/2017 athletics season has seen Ryde Athletics have record registration numbers, with a record number of 452 athletes competing in the Ryde City Games Multi Event.
“The vibe and the feel around the track on a Saturday morning is very positive with both parents and athletes feeling excited about all the new initiatives that have taken place.”
