BASKETBALLERS expect to continue playing at Club RydeX’s sports hall until the end of the year, when the venue is likely to be sold.
A new home court is on the agenda for the Inner West Bulls basketball association, which changed its name from Ryde in 2015.
Club RydeX owns the property and its members voted the site be classed “non-core” land last month, paving the way for a sale.
Bulls general manager Seamus Collins had a rough timeline for its future.
“RydeX has committed to support us as long as is practically possible, given the sale might be at the end of year. Then it is in the lap of the purchaser,” he said. “We’re taking an optimistic view that we’re continuing.”
The association has about 250 junior players and 100 seniors. They play at the RydeX, ELS Hall Park at North Ryde and Netball Central at Sydney Olympic Park.
The sports hall has only one court, but it is the most used in the association.
While Mr Collins hoped a new owner might accommodate basketball, there were other options.
“If we have time to restructure, we could look at other venue relationships — ELS Hall or school relationships. We feel the club will be able to continue offering basketball in the Ryde area.”
The next basketball season for players of all ages starts in two weeks.
