She’s is only a couple of months old but little Millie McGowan is already emulating her father’s great sense of timing.
Millie was born on what should have been the A-League grand final day prior to the explosion of the coronavirus and subsequent sporting shutdowns.
“Before it all happened we knew Steph was due on May 20 and the grand final was scheduled for the 17th so it was all a bit stressful,” said McGowan, who has only just returned from Scotland where his family has been based during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In the end it all worked out perfectly with Millie born on the 17th which should have been grand final day but wasn’t.”
Now instead of wondering what might have been, McGowan’s memory of the day will always be special.
“From my point of view the shutdown was a blessing,” McGowan said.
But it is now back to business for McGowan who has only recently rejoined his teammates after a fortnight hotel quarantine following his return from the UK.
“It’s been a lot. time. Longest break I have ever had in 12 to 13 years,’’ he said.
“After about a month of it I have been itching to get back.
“It’s just great to get back and finish the season off.’’
