A late double from Tyler Noseworthy has helped the Sydney Bears to a 4-2 derby win over the Ice Dogs at Macquarie Ice Rink on Friday.

It was the first battle of Sydney won by the Bears in 2017, with the Dogs claiming the first two by one and three goals respectively.

The Bears showed determination from the outset, converting their energy into a powerplay goal from Ryan Annesley with just over four minutes left in the first period.

Xander Wardlaw scored his first career AIHL goal minutes later to extend the Bears lead to two at the first intermission.

It took until halfway through the second for the Ice Dogs to finally hit back as Todd Stephenson put them on the board off a power play of their own.

Grant Toulmin’s 17th goal of the season brought the scores level in the opening seconds of the third, ensuring the local crowd would be treated to another grandstand finish.

However Noseworthy’s two-goal effort ultimately wrapped up the win for the Bears three minutes from full-time.

It was the only win of the weekend for either Sydney team as the Ice Dogs fell to Adelaide 2-0 and the Bears went down 2-1 to the Melbourne Ice.

The Bears play the Ice again at home on Saturday for their inaugural Pride Match, followed by the Ice Dogs on Sunday.

Kids under 13 will get into the Ice Dogs game for free if they are with a paying adult.
