RYDE Eastwood Leagues Club has plans to redevelop 10 homes near its West Ryde premises for seniors housing.
Flush with funds from the sale of its Hawks on Second Avenue restaurant at Eastwood last year, the club wants to make more use of its residential properties.
Its aim is to redevelop its properties at 4-14 Terry Rd and 127-133 Ryedale Rd, Denistone, and provide homes tailored to seniors.
The club lodged a planning proposal with Ryde Council last month, which asks that the land be allowed for seniors housing. This would require changes to allowed building heights.
The club’s general manager Chris McCarthy declined to give details of the project at this stage.
He is expected to outline the proposal at the club’s annual general meeting on Thursday, November 23.
The club recorded a profit of $22 million this year, based on the sale of the Hawks site and three adjoining properties.
Mr McCarthy recently told members the property redevelopment would help create new revenue streams.
The club is also acquiring part Forster Lne to aid its expansion.
If the club is successful with its planning proposal, it must then lodge a development application. Residents will be able to have a say on both applications.
A council spokeswoman said the proposal was subject to preliminary review and it was too early to comment on detail or the time frame.
Clubs across Australia have moved to provide seniors housing on or next to their sites in recent times as a way of improving financial viability.
Gladesville RSL in July gained approval for a 10-storey seniors housing project and youth centre next to the Coulter St carpark.
