A man has been slapped with larceny charges after he allegedly stole a motorcycle trailer and posted it for sale on social media before the owner stumbled across his lost trailer on the site.
It comes after a motorcycle trailer which was locked and secured by a chain and padlocks was allegedly taken from the front kerb of a home in Eagle St in Ryde on January 23.
Just over a week later, a 39-year-old man from Ryde placed an advertisement selling the same motorcycle trailer for $200 cash on Facebook marketplace.
On the same day a man purchased the trailer, the owner also saw the ad on the social media site.
On his way to Ryde he saw a man towing his trailer and followed him before alerting police.
Police searched a home on Bavin Ave in Ryde following a number of stolen box trailers at 6.40pm on Tuesday February 4.
During the search police seized two box trailers neither of which had any identifiable registration or plates attached, an angle grinder, painting equipment and paint.
He was later arrested and charged with larceny, two counts of goods in custody and disposing a motor vehicle part-theft.
The man was given bail conditions and is now due to appear in Burwood Local Court on 16 March 2020.
