A high-flying former Sydney barrister has been charged after he allegedly had more than 1600 child abuse images and 16 videos on his two laptops and iPad.

A high-flying former Sydney barrister who was allegedly found with 1600 child abuse images and videos on two laptops and an iPad did not appear in court today.

Richard James Horsley, 60, was charged with one count of using a carriage service to access child pornography and three counts of possessing child abuse material after police raided his home in August 2018.

Court documents reveal Horsley allegedly had more than 1600 images and 16 videos depicting pre and post pubescent children “engaged in sexual activity, naked or sexually posing” in two HP laptops and an Apple iPad found in his Alexandria home.

He was also charged for allegedly using his Apple iPhone X to access and view child pornography.

The retired inner Sydney lawyer who previously worked at 8 Wentworth Chambers specialising in commercial law, was arrested a year later and charged at Campsie police station.

Horsley, who is on bail, did not appear in court today.

His lawyer told the court the brief of evidence was still outstanding and she was seeking an adjournment.

Magistrate Lisa Stapleton adjourned the case for six weeks to April 1.

He remains on bail.
