A teenager who smuggled 100 MDMA caps covered in cling wrap and lodged between his underwear and pants at a summer music festival has dodged jail.
Remy So, 18, from Eastwood was convicted of supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug after he told police he wanted to make “quick money” to move out of the family home after being found with the drugs at Summer Gathering music festival in Sydney’s west on January 25.
Police facts tendered to the court reveal So, who receives $400 on youth allowance and lives at his family home, was stopped at the festival’s entry in Olympic Park.
So had tried to enter the Dome when a drug detection dog detected a scent of prohibited drugs.
The officer approached the accused and asked him if he has any drugs on him to which So admitted to being in possession of “MDMA caps,” according to court documents.
So was searched in a booth where he removed a package from his pants.
“The accused removed a package wrapped in clear plastic cling wrap from in between his underwear and pants,” according to police facts.
Police examined the package and found several layers of cling wrap around a large clear resealable bag.
10 smaller clear resealable bags were found inside the larger bag, each containing 10 clear capsules with a “powder substance” inside, according to police facts.
So told police the powder was MDMA and officers counted 100 MDMA capsules in total.
In a police interview after his arrest, So made admissions telling police he intended to approach people in the festival who appeared “drug affected” and sell each capsule for $20.
He also told police he was trying to make “money quickly” so he could leave his family home and be “independent.”
This week, Remy So was convicted at Burwood Local Court where Magistrate Lisa Stapleton sentenced him into a two-year Community Corrections Order and 200 hours of community services.
He was also ordered to complete a rehabilitation and treatment plan and be supervised by a Community Corrections Officer during the two years.
