A Sydney man has fronted court after allegedly robbing a chemist with a firearm in Sydney’s inner west yesterday.
Afa Uasi, 40, from Bankstown was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.
Police will allege Uasi entered Pike’s Day and Night Pharmacy on Burwood Rd armed with an imitation pistol and approached the counter and threatened staff while demanding money about 5.45pm on Sunday (April 5).
Police allege the man took a sum of cash and fled the store.
Using CCTV, officers were able to track Uasi in Redfern where he was arrested.
Police will allege a search of the area located a sum of cash and other items allegedly linked to the offence.
The Burwood pharmacy owner said he was not in at the time but was alerted by his staff members before arriving 10 minutes later.
“He was after money,” he told the Inner West Courier.
He said his staff members managed to get away when the man was still in the pharmacy before police arrived on scene.
Uasi appeared via AVL at Central Local Court on Monday where bail was not applied for and formally refused.
He remains in custody.
The matter has been adjourned to June 1.
