A uniquely shaped pub could soon be built on a narrow wedge of land next to a busy railway station in Sydney’s north.

The proposed drinking hole is detailed in development plans for a thin strip known as ‘The Wedge’, next to Meadowbank Train Station.

Images of the proposed development show the pub would stand three storeys tall on the 342sqm triangular site, which is currently used as a private carpark.

The strangely shaped block of land measures just 14m at its widest point and narrows to a tip at the southern end.

The new pub would include indoor and outdoor seating and dining spaces, a gaming room, cafe and bar, along with features such as a keg and cool room.

Plans argue the development could improve the vibrancy of Meadowbank, noting the suburb has a “distinct lack” of dining and entertainment venues.

“There are no pub or food and drink premises similar to that proposed within the Meadowbank area and as such the proposal is considered to fill a void in the mix of land uses," the plans state.

“The proposed (development) will also contribute to the diversity of retail uses within the area and will generate new employment opportunities.”

The development plan is being considered by Ryde Council.

Plans show that due to the limitations of the site, no carparks would be provided as part of the development.

Developer Wedge House Pty Ltd said the venue would “unlock a highly constrained and difficult site and will provide a high-quality and visually pleasing building.”

“The proposed hotel will provide residents, visitors and workers in the area with a modern recreation and entertainment venue,” the plans stated.

The plans have been lodged with Ryde Council and are currently being considered by planning staff.

If approved, the venue would have approval to trade from 10am to 2am from Mondays to Saturdays, and from 10am until midnight on Sundays.
