New skatepark ready to roll
The much-anticipated skate park at Meadowbank Park is due to open this week.
Professionals and amatuers will ride side by side at the new skatepark in Meadowbank this month.
The much-anticipated skatepark will officially open on Saturday, April 27.
While the facility will open to the public this week, Ryde Council will officially open the facility next Saturday with a day of competitions, demonstrations and appearances from professional skaters as well as food and a live DJ.
Skateboarders, scooter users and BMX riders will be able to test their skills on the new 3m-deep skate bowl, dual spine flow bowl, obstacles, a streetscape skate area and a parkour and bouldering area.
The Meadowbank Outdoor Youth and Family Recreation Space on Constitution Rd has been under construction since August last year and work finished this week.
The upgrade also included picnic tables, landscaping, lighting and footpaths.
Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale said the park was suitable for skaters and riders of all ages.
“This new facility is a huge addition to the City of Ryde, providing fun and safe facilities for people of all ages and abilities as well as alfresco and seating areas for everyone to take advantage of,” he said.
The open day begins at noon and runs until 4pm.
