A SKATE park is slowly taking shape at Meadowbank Park after workers began digging at its northern end.
Fencing has been erected close to Constitution Road West so workers can build the ramps and skate bowl for skateboarders and scooter riders.
The $2.5 million Ryde Council project will include picnic tables, landscaping, lighting and footpaths.
Skateboarders have campaigned for the park for years, and cited a lack of spaces for their sport.
The project is due to completed by March next year.
Some neighbours raised concerns about the facility, including noise, increased traffic, policing, pedestrian safety and anti-social behaviour.
However they seemed few compared with the skaters calling for the park.
Eastwood Park was also considered as a venue for the skate park, but consultants for the council recommended Meadowbank for its space and popularity for skating.
