ANOTHER school is planned for the Ryde area — and some of us may have been there before.

The former Peter Board High School site at Macquarie Park is set to welcome students again as the state government buys back the land.

The school at the northern end of Wicks Rd closed in 1998, and the land has been disused.

Woolworths is the most recent owner, and had planned to open one of its Masters hardware stores there.

However its decision last year to sell the struggling business presented an opportunity for the government.

Education minister Rob Stokes has signed an exclusivity agreement to buy back the land for a high school.

The sale price has not been disclosed.

Demand for places at the school should be high. The state government is planning many more homes and businesses for Macquarie Park.

State Liberal Ryde MP Victor Dominello said he had been working on securing the school for months and the agreement was brilliant news.

The government is also exploring a new primary school for Macquarie Park to address future demand.

These plans will hinge on its master plans for the suburb, still in progress.

The high school announcement follows plans for a Catholic high school in what will be a redeveloped Ivanhoe estate at Macquarie Park.

There are also plans for a combined primary and high school at Meadowbank, and the Smalls Road Public School is due to open in 2020.

The Peter Board High School was named after the first director of education in NSW.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian was one of its students.
