An alleged drug dealer who allegedly refused to leave his home after his lease expired failed to appear before the court because he was too ‘intoxicated,’ a court has heard.

Shahoo Karimi, 32, from Macquarie Park who was charged with drug supply, ammunition possession and trespassing had his matter heard for a brief mention in Burwood Local Court today.

Police were called to a unit on Waterloo Rd in Macquarie Park about 1pm on Thursday after the property owner complained his tenant, Karimi, refused to leave after his lease term had expired.

Police will allege Karimi became aggressive as they tried to escort him from the unit.

Officers then restrained him before searching his luggage where they allegedly found rounds of ammunition, bags containing white powder suspected to be steroids, multiple credit cards under various names, multiple interstate drivers’ licences, motorbike registration plates and dyes.

The man was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station.

Later that night, Karimi allegedly attempted to escape custody at about 6.40pm and was stopped outside by a police officer who suffered minor injuries as a result of a struggle with him.

Karimi was returned to the holding cell, where it is alleged he resisted a forensic procedure and assaulted a male officer.

He was charged with a string of offences including trespassing, possess ammunition without permit/licence, supply prohibited drugs, escaping police custody, assaulting a police officer.

Karimi was refused bail and was to appear before Burwood Local Court today.

Magistrate Daniel Reiss told the court Karimi was unable to appear because he was “intoxicated” and “disruptive”.

“I’ve been advised he is intoxicated, is being disruptive, doesn’t wish to be represented by Legal Aid, and is too disruptive to bring into court,” Magistrate Reiss told the court.

“It’s not practice that head office likes to see matters adjourned to the bail court but given the restrictions of the bail act we can’t bring him in to deal directly. He will have to go to the bail court tomorrow.”

The matter has been adjourned to Parramatta Local Court on February 8.
