A woman has been arrested in relation to a fire which broke out in Sydney’s north overnight.
Multiple fire crews were called to a home engulfed in flames in North Epping, with nearby residents reporting people “climbing out of windows.”
Emergency services arrived at the home on Bailey Crescent just before 10pm on Wednesday.
A NSW Fire spokesman said seven fire trucks responded to the blaze at 9.52pm.
“It ended up being just a single room alight in a house,” the NSW Fire spokesman said.
At 10.50pm, the spokesman said the fire had been extinguished and a few crews were still on scene.
North Epping resident Danielle Smalley who lives in the house just behind the fire said she saw people climbing out of windows as the house burnt up in flames before calling emergency services.
“We are in the house behind and saw flames which flared up very quickly,” she told The Northern District Times.
Ms Smalley said the fire appeared to be coming from the bottom level of the house.
“We saw people climbing out the bottom windows and trying to douse it with flames.
“Lots of pops and bangs. Lots and lots of thick grey smoke.”
Following inquiries, a 20-year-old woman, who resides at the location, was arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station where she was charged with damage property by fire.
She was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today.
A NSW Police spokesman said no one was injured.
