In January, Kylie Cilek was told she would not be here right now.
But the 36-year-old Ryde woman’s courageous fight has meant she is still raising funds to travel to the US for a trail to treat her stage four metastatic tongue, head and neck cancer.
Propelled by a love for her daughter Isla, 4, and husband Tanyu, she is aiming to raise $150,000 through a GoFundMe page that has already climbing rapidly towards that target.
“There’s not many things left for me to try here so we’re looking at the States to see what trials they’ve got,’’ the former travel agent said.
“It’s been such a rollercoaster because I got told in January I’d have two months to live because the tumour was getting really big.”
After chemotherapy and radiation, Mrs Cilek successfully fought an unrelated cancer in 2012 but she was diagnosed with tongue cancer two years ago when her doctors at the Lifehouse, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, described as a smoker’s cancer.
It spread to lymph nodes in her head and neck.
“It’s horrible,’’ she said.
“It’s so frustrating because I’m so anti-smoking, drugs and drinking and then I end up with smoker’s cancer — it’s infuriating. I’ve always tried to be healthy.”
