A speed camera in North Ryde issued more than $1.4 million in fines during 2018 — making it the most expensive speed camera across Sydney’s northern district.

The speed camera is located in a school zone nearby to North Ryde Public School, at the intersection of Lane Cove Rd and Coxs Rd.

The Times can reveal a full breakdown of how many fines each speed camera issued during 2018 across the region, which are listed below.

The second most ticketed camera in the region is on Victoria Rd in Ryde, between Margaret St and Cressy Rd. It issued $1,393,291 in fines in 2018.

There are 11 fixed cameras (including red-light speed cameras) in Sydney’s northern district.

Mobile speed cameras are also in operation and are moved across the region.

Centre for Road Safety executive director Bernard Carlon said speed cameras were there to save lives.

“We know that speed cameras work to slow drivers down, reduce the number and severity of crashes, and save lives.

“This has been demonstrated both in NSW and worldwide.

“The NSW Government’s 2017 speed camera review found that there has been an 85 per cent reduction in fatalities at fixed speed camera locations, and a 54 per cent reduction in fatalities at red-light speed camera locations.”

He said all money collected from speed camera fines goes into the Community Road Safety Fund.

“That is used to fund important safety programs such as road safety upgrades, high visibility police operations, raised pedestrian crossings and school zone flashing lights.”

Revenue NSW release detailed data on each speed camera in the state on its website.

Locations for mobile speed cameras can also be found on the Centre for Road Safety website.
