A free shuttle service that links commuters between Melrose Park and Meadowbank train station has been extended to take in Meadowbank ferry wharf.
Melrose Park North Urban Renewal project developers PAYCE added the wharf to the service, which it started operating in peak times in March, after community demand.
The bus route starts at the northern end of Wharf Rd, travels via Taylor and Cobham
Ave, Andrew St, Adelaide St and Constitution Rd West before stopping at
Meadowbank station and travelling the extra kilometre to Meadowbank ferry terminal, where it will terminate.
The bright green eco-friendly bus holds 26 passengers and features a low floor
with an easy accessible wheelchair ramp.
PAYCE director Dominic Sullivan said the original timetable had been adjusted to better match the train and ferry departure times.
“The service has proven to be very popular with the local community, passing its first
milestone of 1000 passenger trips within the first month of starting,’’ he said.
“While the service caters primarily for commuters, it is available to all members of the public
to use during its operation hours.”
The hop-on, hop-off service now averages 400 passenger trips a week.
Melrose Park North is Sydney’s largest urban renewal project. The 30-hectare site includes
industrial land near the Parramatta River.
The $6 billion Melrose Park North redevelopment is Australia’s largest urban renewal project and will include 6000 apartments, a retail town centre, community
facilities and parklands and create more than 1500 new jobs.
The first residents are due to start moving in to their new homes mid-2020.
