Epping to Chatswood train stations closure means pedestrians delays

PEDESTRIANS will have to cross a busy intersection three times to get from one side of Lane Cove Rd at Macquarie Park to the other when train station tunnels close as part of the Epping to Chatswood rail closure.

How long will it take to cross road during rail closure?

PEDESTRIANS will have to cross a busy intersection three times to get from one side of Lane Cove Rd at Macquarie Park to the other when train station tunnels close as part of the Epping to Chatswood rail closure.

Pedestrians use the station tunnel to walk from one side of Lane Cove Rd to the other on the western side of the intersection with Waterloo Rd outside Macquarie Park station. There is no pedestrian crossing.

The rail line closes for seven months from September 30 while platforms are upgraded for Metro trains.

This means pedestrians at Macquarie Park must cross Waterloo Rd, then Lane Cove Rd, then Waterloo Rd again.

The Times found walking that route could take up to five minutes, an inconvenience for the many people working in offices either side of the intersection, such as those at the Hyundai and Foxtel buildings.

Temporary pedestrian barriers would be installed at the intersection before September 30 as part of traffic control measures throughout Macquarie Park which would improve pedestrian safety, a Transport for NSW spokeswoman said.

Police officers will help pedestrians and motorists adjust to the new conditions.

Transport officials have already asked those who will use the rail replacement buses to allow an additional 10 minutes travel time.

Workers are being encouraged to use the rail replacement buses rather than drive.

Metro trains will be driverless and run between Chatswood and Rouse Hill as part of the extended line due to open next year.
