MOTORISTS thinking of driving to Macquarie Park and North Ryde during the closure of the Epping to Chatswood rail line are in for an unpleasant surprise.
Two hour parking restrictions are set to be introduced to 44 residential streets close to the business park, Macquarie Centre, the university and train stations ahead of the September 30 upgrade.
While replacement buses will be running, many motorists are expected to drive and look for all-day parking while trains are out of service for seven months.
Residents have worried their streets could be packed with parked cars, and some driveways blocked.
Ryde Council is proposing two hour restrictions on one side of these streets on weekdays from 8am to 6pm.
The limit would ensure short-term parking for visitors and tradespeople, the council said.
Parking rangers would issue fines to motorists who breach the restrictions.
Yet some residents are calling for the restrictions to go further.
Kathy Tracy lives on one of the streets affected — Agincourt Rd, Marsfield. Plenty of motorists already leave their car there and walk to the university and other destinations.
Mrs Tracy did not want parking on her side of the road to remain unrestricted.
“We don’t want people dumping their cars there,” she said.
“People try and grab any sort of spot, even if it’s part of someone’s driveway.”
Mrs Tracy has presented a residents’ petition to the council asking for the two hour restrictions on both sides of Agincourt Rd.

The council is considering the request, as it is still to finalise its proposal.
The replacement buses during the rail closure will be called Station Link buses and have seven routes.
Buses will run up to every six minutes between Epping and Chatswood on weekdays, and there will be a dedicated Macquarie University service.
The rail upgrade will make the line compatible with metro trains. These are being introduced as part of the new north west line extending to Rouse Hill.
