THE COMMUNITY has one day to comment on a masterplan for 3500 homes, a school and other community facilities in the Ivanhoe Estate in Macquarie Park.
Public Exhibition of the concept designs for the precinct, which will also include 1000 homes under social housing, childcare centres and a residential aged care facility, closes to the public on May 9.
The masterplanned estate is the first major project proposed under the NSW Government’s Future Directions for social housing policy, an initiative by Family and Community Services to establish a 10-year plan for the state’s social housing scheme.
“The proposed development is an integrated social housing development located at the corner of Herring and Epping Roads, Macquarie Park, including up to 3,500 residential properties, along with community facilities, retail and green space,” a NSW Planning spokesman said.
The project is being proposed by the NSW Land and Housing Commission through a consortium with Mission Australia Housing and developers Frasers Property Australia and Citta Property Group.
2300 private dwellings would be constructed across several 20-storey high rise residential towers, while 128 affordable housing homes will also be provided as part of the precinct.
The residential aged care facility will accommodate 120 beds, alongside 132 independent living units in the precinct as well.
“An independent vertical high school will be provided, the high school will cover years 7-12 and accommodate approximately 1000 students,” a NSW Land and Housing Commission submission said. “A number of minor retail tenancies will be provided along Main Street and fronting the new urban plaza.
“Retail tenancies are intended to accommodate convenience retail for the future Ivanhoe
community and may include cafes, shops and a mini-major supermarket.”
If approved, the masterplanned precinct would be constructed across seven stages over a 10 to 15 year process.
Last month, demolition of the Invanhoe public housing estate commenced, despite some residents still awaiting rehousing.
