THE Sea Eagles’ rotten run of luck has continued with prop Brenton Lawrence facing surgery this week on a pectoral injury he suffered during last Friday night’s costly loss to the Raiders in Canberra.
He received the bad news after undergoing a scan and he is another star player who will miss Sunday afternoon’s game against Penrith at Brookvale Oval.
It is a cruel blow for Lawrence who fought his way back into the top 17 after missing all of last season when he underwent major back surgery.
He and fellow front-rower Siosaia Vave have both been making big impacts coming off the bench
Lawrence was just one of the high profile casualties from the 30-18 loss in the nation’s capital.
Halfback Daly Cherry-Evans will be out four weeks with an ankle injury, while skipper Jamie Lyon is set to be sidelined for two games with a hamstring injury.
On top of that, centre Steve Matai will be sidelined indefinitely due to a long-term neck injury while Feleti Mateo has a calf problem.
The injuries come ahead of the Sea Eagles much anticipated first Sunday afternoon game of the season at Brookvale Oval at 4pm.
The Panthers have left matchwinner Jamie Soward out of their team, sticking with last week’s debutant Nathan Cleary in the halves.
