A bookies’ insider has questioned how a bet of $700,000 could be placed one NRL game without a number of red flags being raised.

It has been alleged a bet of between $500,000 and $700,000 was placed on Manly losing by more than eight points in the round 16 game against South Sydney which the Rabbitohs won 20-8. Another unsubstantiated claim is that six players then received $50,000 each

“It is laughable to think that someone could have a bet of that amount on a run of the mill NRL game without flags and whistles gong off,” the insider told the Manly Daily.

“From a punting point of view could you imagine someone holding half a million on an option at $1.90 to win $450,000 and then giver $300,000 if it away?”

The TAB, reportedly the largest betting organisation on rugby league, have continually stated that their largest holding match of the round is Monday nights which averages $1 million all up.
