SEA Eagles forward Anthony Watmough wants to defy the odds and play in Sunday’s game against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium despite rupturing his bicep in Wednesday’s epic State of Origin game.
It was feared that “Choc” could be sidelined for up to a month due to the injury but the Manly hardman has different ideas.
“It was partially torn a couple of months ago,” Watmough said.
“Its gone now, we wanted it to go.
“Once it is gone you can deal with the pain and manage it the best we can.”
Asked about his immediate playing future Watmough declared: “ Hopefully I will be right for Sunday.
“Liz our (NSW Origin) physio here she wants me to have the week off but if I have anything to say I will be playing Sunday.”
The backrower also revealed what it was like playing in such a memorable interstate battle with a winning NSW team.
“I think what makes it even greater was that it was the 100th Origin,” he said.
“It’s such a big occasion, they had so much to play for with the unveiling of the Mal Meninga statue.”
He said the Blues went to Brisbane with a plan and stuck to it.
“And the boys dug in for one another and you can’t ask any more.
“It was a pretty special win. We didn’t have a bench for probably a good 15 minutes.
“That just goes to show the mindset of the boys and how hard we work for one another.”
But he said the NSW players know there is still a long way to go.
“They are only going to get better and we are only going to get better,” he said.
“We have a big opportunity here to do something special and we know we have to be a lot better than we were tonight.
“And that is a fact, we have to be better, we have to be more ruthless.”
