THE Warringah Rats have gone down to Eastwood 41-24 in the Shute Shield match of the round day at TG Millner Field today.
It was only the Rats second defeat of the season after 11 rounds.
After winning ugly in recent weeks the side’s luck ran out against last year’s grand finalists.
The first half was the Rats’ worst 40 minutes this season.
After Warringah five-eighth Hamish Angus kicked an early penalty goal, the Woodies raced in three tries to take a 20-3 lead.
Warringah lifted their game after the break and at various stages trailed 20-17 and 27-24 after tries to backrower Boyd Killingworth, winger Harry Jones and replacement forward Slammin’ Sam Ward.
But the end that was not enough.
A positive was how the side fought back after a terrible start.
That game may be the wake-up call the team needs heading into the back end of the season.
Rats centre Tui Tuisavaii was impressive in his comeback game and Ward made an impact as a second half replacement after being sidelined for several weeks with a foot injury.
