The  biggest piscatorial news of the week was Warringah Anglers Club hosting the fifth annual snapper competition — The Hunt for Red October.

The main aim of the event is to raise funds for Manly’s Bear Cottage hospice, an initiative of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

There was no shortage of generously donated items from sponsors to help raise money.

MARLIN SEASON

Further offshore there have been increasing numbers of striped marlin encountered by anglers trolling 8” skirted lures.

With warm water well over 20C out there and more on the way, it is looking like another great marlin season.

Those large salmon schools are still congregating around the headlands providing light tackle sport fishing options for the boat anglers and, when they move close enough, those land-based too.

Off the beach the odd mulloway has been taken.

Fish Outta Water regular Ollie Ware took his first beach jewie recently, a fish around 10kg, on a fresh squid strip.

More kingy tales are filtering in too, plenty involving heavy gear being defeated.
