The  kingfish season looks like being one of the best I’ve seen.

Some big fish are being caught at the local reefs and with this happening so early in spring it’s a terrific sign of what’s to come over the next four months.

Josh Laws fished with David Rothwell at Narrabeen, wide in 60m of water using a live slimy mackerel for bait and landed a 98cm fish on 50lb gear. And Anthony Ball chased the kings to a reef off Dee Why, boating a 114cm fish on 60lb kit using a live squid. This fish was tagged by the Oceanhunter Sportsfishing boat on the previous weekend.

FISHING: THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER

It didn’t take last week’s winner of the Hunt For Red October snapper comp long to get back into it.

Kingfish is a great eating fish.

Tim Angus headed up the Hawkesbury River chasing mulloway and wasn’t disappointed.

A Squidgy whip bait soft plastic was used to fool a 104cm fish in an afternoon session.

HARBOUR LOOKS HOT

With the wind predicted to be blowing this weekend Sydney Harbour is the place to be.

Big schools of surface pelagics including salmon, tailor and bonito are working between the heads at harbour central, small metal lures and plastics are perfect.
