BOWLERS Matt Butcher and 17-year-old Glyn Archer rescued Warringah after a disastrous start on the first day of their shires cricket game against Burwood on Saturday.

Despite the rain in the lead up to the game, the wicket at Rothwell Park had not been covered.

While Warringah put in a protest to the umpires play went ahead and after losing the toss they were sent in to bat and were dismissed for just 60.

Shane Cook top scored with 24 and captain Kamsen Rajah hit 16 runs.

Then HSC student Archer and Butcher came into the attack on a much better batting wicket to put the squeeze on Burwood.

Archer was outstanding, finishing with the figures of 4-20.

Not to be outdone the dependable Butcher claimed 5-32.

At one stage Burwood was 3-90 but thanks to the efforts of the duo they were all out for 155.

“I am proud of the way the boys hung in there and fought to the end,” skipper Rajah said.

Warringah will resume this week at 0-21.

“We are still well in the game, we are only 74 behind them with a full day of cricket to play,” Rajah said.
