A furious Waitara mother left her eight-year-old daughter bruised because the girl chose to play lego instead of doing homework.
The 45 year old mother – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm (domestic) and faced Hornsby Local Court on May 31, following her arrest the night before.
Police facts state the mother became enraged after the daughter played with a “lego drum set” instead of doing her homework on May 25.
“The accused became angry and began throwing items at the victim, who hid behind a bag,” police facts state.
The mother then hurled a homework book at her daughter’s face, causing two cuts to the victim’s eye as she cried for several minutes, according to police facts.
Later the young girl was taken to school and appeared visibly upset and injured, prompting a teacher to question why the child was visibly hurt.
“Mum threw a book at me,” the young girl told the teacher, according to police facts.
On May 30, the young girl was questioned by police with the deputy principal.
“She threw my homework book at me and it made me scared – and then she threw other things at me,” the young girl told police, according to facts.
The victim’s father came to school and told police he was unaware of what happened as he was asleep.
The mother was arrested later that evening and told police: “I have more to say but I don’t think I should”.
The court heard the woman was served an AVO to protect the daughter’s father just a month prior.
The woman was released on bail and will face Hornsby Local Court on July 11 for sentence.
