ISABELLA CHAO is a name to remember. The nine-year-old Neutral Bay dancer, singer and aspiring model is well on her way to becoming a household name in the international dance and entertainment world after being chosen as one of the youngest ever Australian finalists in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).
“I am very proud of her,” mother Kathryn Chao said.
“She trains six days a week and for two to three hours every day.”
Isabella and her mother will be jetting off to Los Angeles in early July with the 30 other Aussie finalists in time to take part in the 20th WCOPA grand finals starting on July 18 and running for two weeks.
The path to success started for Isabella after she submitted audition tapes to the Australian auditions back in March and quickly learned she had became a local finalist.
“Usually the finalists are around 13 years old,” Ms Chao said, “And Australia has never taken someone so young, so Isabella did very well to get in the finals.”
The Neutral Bay Public School girl trains regularly at Dance 102 Performing Arts in St Leonards where she learnt the categories she had to present for the WCOPA auditions — lyrical dance, contemporary, classical ballet, Broadway jazz, and modelling.
She is no stranger to competition success, having been a finalist in last year’s Showcase National Championship of Dance.
“At the moment, she wants to be a singer when she grows up,” Ms Chao said. “I think she wants to be like Beyonce. I can tell you, she isn’t shy!”
Isabella is very excited about the upcoming trip and says she loves to challenge herself.
“I am looking forward to meeting and making friends from across the world. And I want to show them the talent I have.”
