Two teams remain undefeated, one got its first win, and a pre-season premiership fancy has a lot of work to do after round four of the Sydney Shires Cricket first-grade competition.
Epping banked another win in its second-straight home game with a five-wicket triumph over Roseville.
The visitors elected to bat first, and were cruising early as Matt Gubbay and Ben McLean built a 77-run opening stand.
However, McLean’s wicket started a minor batting collapse for Roseville, as they fell from 0/77 to 5/106.
Henry Evans (30) provided some late support to Gubbay (73) to drag the visitors to 9/187 from 50 overs.
Epping’s chase got off to a shaky start, as both openers and the first-drop batsman fell for less than 10 to leave the home side at 3/22.
Akshay Nichkawde (74) and Billy McCarthy (38) took over from that point, and put on 126 runs to put Epping in a winning position.
Anthony Azize and Michael McKeough guided them home with four overs to spare.
Burwood was also forced to work hard for its fourth win of the season, surviving an unbeaten century from Mt Pritchard’s Cosikan Beadle for a seven-wicket win at Greenway Park.
Mt Pritchard-Southern District’s innings featured only two players scoring in double digits despite finishing at 7/207, while Burwood had three players score more than 35 runs in a steady run chase.
Meanwhile, last year’s undefeated minor premiers Auburn suffered its third loss of the season while handing North West Sydney its first win.
Auburn batted first at Bruce Purser Reserve, and built a defensible total of 9/217 thanks to key innings from Najeeb Azzimi (58) and Gagandeep Dhillon (29).
They struggled to make inroads with the ball however, as Ahsan ul-Haq (70) and Amanjyot Singh (99) combined for a 170-run opening partnership as North West Sydney cruised to 2/218 with two overs to spare.
