A MOSMAN councillor has slammed a dodgy footpath as “a slum at the gateway to Mosman”.

“The condition of the footpath is and remains atrocious and requires urgent remediation,” Cr Simon Menzies said.

He raised the problem at 507 Military Rd during a council meeting this month.

Cr Menzies asked why remediation of the footpath was taking more than six months.

A new building at the site was completed late last year and the footpath was repeatedly damaged to allow for utility connections.

The developer is responsible for fixing the footpath.

A spokesman for BMV Property Group, part of the joint venture development, said the matter was being progressed by all parties concerned.

Tenant Art Reflection moved in before Christmas. Store manager Natalie Nivan said last week that loose gravel from the footpath constantly came inside.

“Our business has suffered because we constantly have customers complain,” she said.

“A lady last week asked who was responsible for outside — she said she tripped and fell.”

He wants council to construct a green shared zone so pedestrians can cross safely.

On Monday Cr Menzies said he had asked council staff to intervene with the developer so the footpath would be repaired as soon as possible.

“The asphalt is a temporary fix until the paving is relaid,” he said.

A council spokeswoman said council was liaising with the developer to expedite the completion of the works to ensure the footpath is made safe.
