An upper north shore club is looking to the great outdoors to spread out its patrons as part of expansion plans prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Magpies Waitara has lodged a $1.8 million development proposal to create a new outdoor garden terrace, gaming area and garden bar that would cater for up to 108 patrons at the Alexandria Parade site.

Called the ‘The Garden’, the entertainment area would include a main open air terrace, landscaped gardens, and a roofed terrace that would incorporate the outdoor gaming area.

The club, which has a capacity for 1300 people, said the proposal was aimed at encouraging Covid-19 safe visitation.

“The primary aim of the works is to provide a more Covid friendly choice of areas for patrons of the club and to spread the patrons out within the facility, rather than to increase the number of patrons,” the plans stated.

“It will be an additional outdoor seating area for patrons to relax and socialise with family and friends and will be serviced with a redesigned bar.”

The club currently has a capacity for 1300 people.

The development would be located towards the southeast corner of the site and would include a 2.1m fence around the boundary.

The existing Shamrock Inn bar at the club would be altered as part of the project. A drop-off driveway on Alexandria Parade would also be upgraded as part of the project.

If approved, the bar and gaming area will open from 10am to 2am on Friday and Saturday and to 1am on Sundays to Thursdays.

The club said it would support Covid-19 safe visitation.

The garden terrace areas will be open daily from 10am to midnight.

The club said the development would create employment opportunities in the local area and improve the “services and facilities” within the community.

The proposal is currently under assessment by Hornsby Council.
